Wild animal tee shirts

I am learning to sketch a wild animal and transfer my drawing to a tee shirt.  I used special fabric markers to colour in my design.

Addition to 10

I am learning to read and make patterns to 10. I am learning to write the number sentence using the symbols.

Reading out loud

We are learning to read out loud familiar poems. We are trying to read with fluency and expression. As we get more confident, we can pay attention to the author's punctuation to help our reading sound more interesting.

"I can sound out words I don't know when I read out loud. I can read loudly so everyone can hear" said Crystal

Wonderful writing

At writing time we are learning to experiment with new types of punctuation. We are starting to read our stories back and check we have fullstops and capital letters in the correct places.

"I can do a long story now. I can go over the page! I can do finger spaces and I can robot now."

Three letter words.

I am learning to write a three letter word, listening to the beginning, middle and end sounds.  This will help me in my reading.

Rocket ship

We have been learning about the solar system this term.  We made a rocket with paper and a straw then blew through the straw to see how far our rocket would travel.  

Measuring Fun

We were learning to compare similar objects that differ only in length. We were experimenting  with learning to measure with non-standard units.  We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measured and use measuring language. 

"I am measuring with my foot. I had do finger spaces with foot."

I'm on Phonics Fire!

Phonics lessons are a very important part of our Writing programme. In this photo I am learning to hear and record the middle sound in words. When I recognise the pattern, I can write lots of words.

"Mummy help me with my letters.  I am getting clever."

High frequency words.

I am learning how to read and write my high frequency words independently.

Numerals

Owl babies

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

                    " My painting is cute. I like the Owl."

Matariki

Our classroom celebrated Matariki, which is the Maori New Year. We came to school in our pyjamas and had a yummy breakfast together! It is great to share time with our whanau.

"I had to make my breakfast. I didn't eat it all. I had marshmallows in my milo. It was fun."

M is for my marvellous mum!

My mum came to a parent workshop in Room 3 late at night, when it was really dark! She tried lots of different reading and writing games. My mum is going to hep me get really clever at reading and writing.

Reading in the right direction

I am learning to point to each word as I read in the right direction.

We are learning to write down our ideas and draw a picture to match.

Numbers to 10

I am learning to recognise as well as read and write numbers to 10.  I am able to write all my numbers to 10 correctly.

" I know most of my numbers except for 7,8,10." said Crystal.

Tread Lightly Caravan visit

The Tread lightly Caravan visit was teaching us that the environment is everything around us in nature and that the environment is really important for us to live (trees for oxygen, water to drink, plants for food etc.) so we need to look after it.

" I am growing a plant. I have to look after it for a long time.Then we can eat it. "

Wiggly Worms

We were learning about our Worm farm and how to look after it. All the leftover fruit and vegetables in the worm bucket feeds the worms. 

                                        Crystal said, " The worm is moving a lot."
